LOOKING AFTER THE PAST WHILST PROTECTING THE FUTURE

In 2024 we are celebrating our first ten years, and at the same time looking to the future.  We will look to grow the manufacture of cloth and products, with elements of production, currently undertaken in Yorkshire, moving to Kent. We believe that wool has a big part to play in the textiles of the future, being sustainable, durable and traceable.  Romney wool is well placed to exploit these features to the benefit of its breeders, at the same time working to improve its quality further.

Romney Tweed aspires to create a physical presence to promote both the heritage and the future of Romney wool.  This will bring together our commercial and social purposes.  It will promote the future of wool, especially to the young. It will seek to bring some stages of production to Kent.  It will further our social purposes by encouraging relevant skills and jobs.

We could pursue these by ourselves.  However, we believe that there is scope to work with others, including other traditional skills, to create a Centre – with appropriate retail and catering facilities as well as production and education- which would be an exciting additional tourist destination for Romney Marsh.

This project will require support, both personal and financial, from individuals and organizations on the Marsh and beyond.
